The Constant Gardener follows Justin Quayle (Ralph Fiennes), a British diplomat in Kenya, as he tries to solve the murder of his Amnesty activist wife Tessa (Rachel Weisz).

After seeing Fernando Meirelles' exceptional film City of God, with its memorable opening scene of a chicken being chased by a gang of boys through the slums of Rio. It was important to create something equally memorable and very visual.

So following-on from Fernando's clever use of alternating flashbacks within the film to tell the story of their love. The title sequence uses flashbacks to the happier memory of Tessa within the slums, combined with an abstract of textural rust, which is common to the roofs of the dwellings in Kibera. Using this to reveal, we draw the view from the discoveries of the film into a bright and colourful full frame with the same rust effect texture added.
